Accountability, Truth-telling, and When to Hold your Tongue (Luckily, the heavens have it all timed out for us!)

Some of the biggest news this month has to do with the eclipses (starting this Friday!). But that’s not where I want to begin. I have a few pointers for them, but I’m personally more interested in the applying opposition between Jupiter-in-Libra and Uranus-in-Aries that is closing all month long until they meet in the same degree on February 27th. The symbol for Jupiter-in-Libra opposite Uranus-in-Aries is a person ‘swearing in’, as if to ‘testify’ (or ‘ovarify’, as the case may be! I have to reference Emily Trinkaus’ Venus Revolution for that fun play on words!). The word that goes with this image of ‘swearing in’ is: Accountability. So, there is an impending theme of accountability and truth-telling this whole month as we approach the exact opposition between expansion of justice (Jupiter in Libra) and personal revolution (Uranus in Aries)! To me, this is the umbrella energy the whole month, into which fall the two eclipses.
The reason this aspect forms the backdrop for what is happening now is partly due to the fact that we are already in the midst of a series of exact oppositions between the two planets, so their themes are already ‘up’. It all began during the holiday season last year and will end with a third pass later this year in September. It is worth noting that since they closed in on each other, they have not been more than 2-3 degrees apart, so the ‘social revolution’/‘surprise leadership’ type of energy has been vibrating strongly ever since the new year, if not since the holidays. The upcoming contact this month is the middle of three conjunctions and the one in which Jupiter is retrograde (Uranus is the backwards one in the other two scenarios). Balance is a huge meta-theme, with Uranus shaking things up, and Jupiter and Uranus dancing back and forth, trying to figure each other out.

So, it seems to me that the first conjunction between these two - just before Uranus stationed direct - acted as an ignition for the expansion of social justice (Jupiter in Libra) in the face of surprise (erratic?!) leadership - literally moving backwards (Uranus retrograde in Aries). This second conjunction seems more like a time to regroup (Jupiter retrograde in Libra), which may have already begun and will certainly continue right up until the end of the month, if not beyond.

The original symbol for Jupiter-in-Libra is a man with his arms outstretched, as if inviting folks to join his large, festive party in a ‘the-more-the-merrier’ kind of vein. This symbol shifts when Jupiter turns retrograde (this already happened on February 6th!) to a more subdued gathering of closer, more intimate persons who are calm and quiet and all seem to be connected, with no real ‘host’ or ‘leader’ and all sharing a common intent. If you haven’t already found a small group with whom you connect and want to work with concerning such things as social justice or simply harmonious socializing, now may be a good time to suss one out (regroup)! Furthermore, it seems that honesty is key this year, perhaps creating deeper, more profound intimacies, harmonies, and connections (folks in my generation have Pluto in Libra, where Jupiter is hanging out, making this last point even more pertinent for them - if you’re not sure where your Pluto is, you can get a free chart at astro.com or book a reading with me!).

The final exact opposition later this year in September gives us our final push with these two placements, which will be the time when we see the energies work out some kind of closure before moving on to work on other lessons. Uranus will be retrograde again, and Jupiter direct. Hopefully, they will have worked out their differences and the closing round will be a healthy one. We will look at it again in September.

The eclipses seem to puncuate this broader theme of truth telling and accountability with a few poignant moments defined by the symbols described in the following paragraphs.
Picture
The first eclipse is a Lunar eclipse in Leo on Feb 10/11 for which the symbol is a person just keeping their mouth shut, either because they know better than to speak, because they are unable to find the words, because there really is nothing to say, or perhaps because they are being ‘silenced’ (as with Elizabeth Warren?! - the news about this came out just a few days before the eclipse, which seems relevant). Because it is in Leo and the light is being blocked, it seems like this time is not one to seek attention or lime-light. It is not the Sun (who rules Leo) being eclipsed, so it is not just about turning down the spotlight. It is the moon in Leo, so it seems like holding your tongue when the urge to speak feelings of pride comes over you *may* be in order. Or, maybe you will have a lot of emotion to express but no words. Or, maybe some light-sucker will disallow you the light you need to express properly. Whatever the case may be, if you note what house has Leo on the cusp in your natal chart, you may get a clue as to where this eclipse may affect you, at least temporarily: the moon moves quickly, but an eclipse is a powerful marker.

The second eclipse is the Solar eclipse in Pisces on Feb 26 for which the symbol is a dead fish. Now, this symbol is not entirely clear to me (and in fact, seems a bit fishy! ha!), but it made me think of three things:

1- a literal translation of eclipsing (taking the light from) Pisces = dead fish
2- a kind of ‘April Fools’ prank (beause it reminded me of Poisson d’Avril in France)
3- a “red herring” (a deliberate distraction from the truth) <sadly, this seems most likely

In terms of our backdrop of accountability and truth-telling -or holding one’s tongue, as the case may be- they all seem to fit, in a way. It seems like some kind of lying or distraction may be upon us. Or that some lie will fall dead and we will be able to see the truth afterward.

I’m afraid this one puzzles me a bit and I may not fully understand it until after the fact. If you have any insights, please share them in the comments below!

At the time of the solar eclipse, Uranus, Mars, and Eris will be conjunct in Aries. And, if Mars in Aries is a punch in the face, then Mars conjunct Uranus in Aries is a bazooka. However, when you add Eris to the mix, the image shifts to a large group of women resistors fighting for what’s right, which I find extremely hopeful. To have this energy opposing Libra in Jupiter (which gives me a feeling of “look out!”) and squaring Pluto in Capricorn means leaning into structural transformation may be the best way to deal with the volatile fire energy that is opposing the balance-seeking social efforts. The people affect the structure affects the leadership. So, keep up the good work, people!

Here’s a quick run-down of how to harness these energies this month:

Tell the truth. Keep your pride to yourself on and near the 10th. Watch out for lies and distractions and tricks on and near the 26th. Find yourself a kindred group in the coming weeks, and stick it out with them until June, meeting when you can - if that calls to you. Be aware that there are tensions in the air. Stay grounded. Give yourself space… and time… and radical self care. Schedule it. Keep track of what happens around the 26th so we can figure out what that dead fish is about! Listen (
I wish you the best and hope you will be in touch about how these symbols show up in your life or in the world around you, or if you find your own! Please share any way you feel- I’m fairly accessible. Love & light to you!

Beautiful writing and beautiful astrology. Could you possibly add the origin or your symbols, if it is Sabian or otherwise. I know you referred to Emily T for one. Is it hers or ?Sabian. Are some yours? I just think it is important to reveal this source. Thanks Melanie!

Thanks, Lauren! They are my own found symbols. I appreciate your input! I completely agree that sourcing our information is the right thing to do. I'll have to add a footnote! Thanks, again!
