“Home is where the Heart is” holds true even in astrology. While many books point out the connection between Leo and the Sun to the Heart, I think of the Moon as representing heart themes. The moon is our comfort and care, our home-base, our relating and emotional life, our Mother. To me, this is all in the heart (as is the suit of Cups in a Tarot deck - all about emotions and relating - and they correspond to the suit of Hearts in a deck of playing cards!).
Cancer is a motherly energy (can be, anyway). The 4th house (ruled by Cancer) is said to be an indicator of our roots, our true self, how we feel most at home. So, it is no surprise that when Venus shows up in Cancer, our ‘motherly’ (for men, too!) inclinations start ‘showing up’ and ‘hanging out’ at Home.

When Venus was in Gemini (a bit more of a whirlwind of energy and ideas), I found myself out shopping quite a bit. Since Venus entered Cancer a few weeks ago, the urge to be busy about town, feeling out my sense of wealth and value has subsided. I have since found myself shifting my energy to the home and what a mess it is! (Eek!) Venus in Cancer cannot abide a mess in the home (though, she may really wish for someone else to come along and take care of it!).
Nurturing is the keyword I think of for Venus in Cancer. To me, it seems that Venus and the Moon have certain overlapping characteristics to begin with (feminine, cycles, mothering, etc.), so when they team up, this type of ‘mothering’ energy is really brought forth. And, again, we refer to the Moon/Cancer themes mentioned above: Home, Nurturing, Care, Comfort.
And, there is one more theme to consider - perhaps what we crave the most: emotional security. Some kind of unconditional holding or safe/sacred space in which to relate —to ourselves, even! All of the Gemini running around can lead us to forget ourselves. Coming home again can help us re-member.
So, depending on where and how Venus shows up in your chart, you may have found yourself leaning toward some of the following activities as Venus traveled through Cancer these past weeks:
-Dining in rather than eating out (all the better if you have someone to cook for- or to cook for YOU! or even someone to cook WITH!)
-Cleaning or tending to your living space in some way
-Desiring caring actions (footrubs, perhaps?) and/or offering such caring actions to others
-Possibly feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of EVERYTHING it would take to get your home as perfect and cozy (and CLEAN!) as you actually WISH it WERE! (Again- Maybe your Venus would really like it if someone else came along and took care of you/your home… Or, maybe that’s just me!)
At any rate, that’s all over now, as Venus has inched her way into Leo (oh, la, la!). That’s where she rests in my chart, so I am really looking forward to seeing how that plays out this time around and sharing it here! **WATCH THIS SPACE!**
